Beit Tlalim Children and Youth Program
Beit Tlalim is a boarding school intended for 1218 years old girls suffering from emotional difficulties, mental disorders and challenging behavior. Beit Tlalim opens a 'window of opportunities' for the accepted teenagers. The girls that participate in the program learn to accept their life story and deal with it in a healthy and
adaptive way which will enable them to integrate into the normal life course 'to write a new story'. The boarding school system includes two units, while each unit operates in a separate building and is administered in accordance with therapeutic program adapted to the
profile of girls in each house:
- Beit Tlalim
The unit functions in a large renovated building and its goal is to meet the needs of about 25 girls aged 1218 suffering from combination of emotional difficulties, challenging behavior with normal intelligence.
- Beit HaVered
This unit functions in a spacious villa and its goal is to meet the needs of about 15 girls aged 1218 suffering from combination of emotional difficulties, challenging behavior with low intelligence. Our goal is to create sufficient living space to improve the girls’ personal and social functioning.
There will be an emphasis on independent personal and emotional functioning and social skills as well as setting clear boundaries and providing treatment and support. Personal rehabilitation program for each girl will be created based on her abilities, needs and age.
Services offered to the resident:
The treatment program includes: cognitivebehavioral treatment, psychotherapy, medical treatment, sexual treatment, art therapy, animal assisted therapy, music therapy and more. Integration into educational frameworks. The residents of Beit Tlalim are integrated in the community educational frameworks according to the placement committee permission. There is an absorption group available in the school under the supervision of a teacher on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
The residents of the boarding school are involved in a wide variety of activities: basketball, arts, home economics, dog training, music, adventures, sports, dance and more. The boarding school girls volunteer in the Latet project and in the last year they accompanied the elderly in a nursing home and together they wrote a cooking book and their lives stories. The boarding school staff constantly participates in a professional training and receives personal professional guidance. The team's working standards are very high and each resident is closely attended by professionals throughout the day. Over the years, since the establishment of the boarding school, the residents have made huge progress in their rehabilitation. Some of them entered the regular
education system, national service, joined the IDF, obtained a driving license, returned back to their homes and integrated into the community.
Ways to join the program:
In the beginning, it is essential to turn to the social worker/youth welfare officer of the local authority of the candidate. The social worker/ youth welfare officer addresses a district supervisor who refers the material to Mr. Itzik Elishar, the Jerusalem district Child and Youth Service manager, who makes the decision according to the eligibility of the candidate for the targeted group of the boarding school and refers her to the program.
The decision upon accepting a candidate to the boarding school is obtained by the reception committee meeting held as part of the program. The director of the program, the social worker of the program, the candidate and her family, and referring social welfare department representative are present at the meeting.
