Ofek Community – the place where earth meets sky
Ofek is a multistage community intended for young people of 1835 years of age suffering from behavioral and adjustment disorders with organic issues, learning disabilities andborderline intelligence (Fragile X syndrome, Tourette's syndrome, etc.). Full capacity 42 residents. The community includes a hostel, 2 treatment apartments and a satellite apartment, while a resident can move from one unit to another according to his/her functioning level and progress within the framework. The community works in cooperation with and under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Department in the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Jerusalem district.
The aims of the framework
Developing residents' skills in different areas (home functioning, social and employment skills, etc.), so that they will be able to maintain an independent sufficient living with minimal external support and maximum personal responsibility. Within our unique rehabilitation framework we attempt to build a system that will cover all the problems of the residents and reveal their strengths. The program is the residents' home and provides support and security as well as clear boundaries and builtin schedule offer a protected freedom of choice.
The services offered to the residents:
The framework includes guidance, rehabilitation and treatment in all areas of the resident's life: accommodation, preparation for employment and employment within and outside the framework, leisure, cultural and social activities, socialsexual education given by a third party (individually and in groups, based on the resident’s needs), interpersonal relations and communication, integration in the community and acquisition of the norms of
behavior accepted in a society, the use of the community social services as much as possible, developing primary and secondary ADL skills, academic skills practice, psychiatric care and clinical psychological support, as well as therapeutic classes.
The professional team is multidisciplinary and includes social workers, a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, a nurse, dogassisted therapists, guided imagery therapy specialists, applied art workshop for employment preparation, educational consultant, housemothers and rehabilitation instructors. The team puts an emphasis on cooperation and joint thinking with the residents' community organizations for the sake of their improvement and rehabilitation in the hostel.
Ways to apply for Beit Ofek framework
To get referral for rehabilitation programs one needs to turn to the candidate’s local authority rehabilitation social worker. The rehabilitation social worker calls a local community placement committee meeting. The placement committee decides which frameworks are most suitable for the resident. It is possible to note to the social worker at the meeting if there is a specific framework the candidate or the family are interested in. The admittance decision is conditioned on the placement committee meeting held within the framework. The placement committee meeting is attended by the framework social worker, Etgarim rehabilitation projects professional management, the referring social worker from the Ministry of Social Affairs and any other community social organizations if needed.
